Dizon on MCIA runway incident: "It should not have happened"

Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon, who arrived in Cebu on Tuesday, vowed swift action following the temporary closure of the primary runway at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) due to asphalt damage that disrupted nearly 90 flights last July 12, 2025.

"It should not have happened," Dizon told reporters in a briefing before his scheduled inspection of the damaged runway.
"I saw the photos, and it was dangerous. The good thing is we have a secondary runway now, and it's working well. But I will inspect the primary runway later to understand exactly what went wrong," Dizon said.
