DILG to LGUs: Ensure safe, peaceful Holy Week
April 14, 2025
|The Freeman
The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) reminded local government units to ensure a safe and peaceful observance of the Holy Week, which began yesterday and to end on Easter Sunday.
-
The DILG, in a memorandum circular signed by Undersecretary Omar Romero who had been designated as officer-in-charge, acknowledged the Holy Week or Semana Santa as a “significant religious observance among many Filipinos, especially Christians and Catholics, in the Philippines”.
It is a time when Filipinos commemorate the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ with this year’s Holy Week set from April 13 to 20.
“For many Filipinos, Semana Santa is a time for reflection, repentance, and renewal, and an opportunity to deepen their faith and strengthen their relationship with God,” the DILG memo said.
The DILG added that various religious rituals and activities, such as processions, reenactments of the crucifixion, reading of the Passion of Christ, and Visita Iglesia, are expected to hapoen where Filipinos visit churches to pray and to do the Stations of the Cross.
