Cebu interior designers hail landmark SC ruling

Cebu-based interior designers are moving to enforce stricter compliance with the Architecture Act of 2004 (RA 9266) and the Philippine Interior Design Act of 2012 (RA 10350), after the Supreme Court issued a landmark decision affirming that only licensed architects and interior designers may prepare, sign, and seal architectural and interior design documents.

The Philippine Institute of Interior Designers-Cebu Chapter (PIID-Cebu) welcomed the ruling, saying it not only strengthens professional recognition and industry standards but also provides safeguards for public safety in the built environment.

"This decision is more than a legal win — it is a validation of years of advocacy for professional integrity and rightful recognition of licensed interior designers in Cebu and the Visayas," said IDr. Polaris Anne Arrogacia, president of PIID-Cebu, at a press briefing held recently attended by officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways, the Department of the Interior and Local Government, and the Cebu City Office of the Building Official (OBO).
