Population doubles, corporators static

Twin city’s population doubles to 32 lakh, but civic elections to still elect 128 corporators

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) elections ar expected to take place within three to four months.

A proposed ward structure has fixed the number of corporators at 128—the same as in 2012 and 2017—despite the fact that the city’s popu-ation has nearly doubled in the last 14 years.

According to PCMC’s own budget estimates, the civic body acknowledges that the city’s population has crossed 30 lakh. Pimpri-Chinchwad has seen a rapid influx of people from across Maharashtra and India in search of jobs and education, with multiple educational institutions and industries drawing settlers.
