The state government has initiated a survey to evaluate the vessel-carrying capacity of Vembanad Lake, which has become a central hub for backwater tourism in the Kuttanad region of Alappuzha district.

The move comes in response to growing concerns over the increasing number of houseboats, speedboats, and other tourist vessels operating in the lake, many of which are operating beyond the lake’s environmental limits.
