CRUELTY CHARGES QUASHED | ‘Allegations without overt acts can’t justify prosecution’
The Supreme Court has quashed domestic cruelty, domestic violence and dowry harassment proceedings against a woman's in-laws, holding that general and omnibus allegations without specific overt acts cannot justify criminal prosecution of a husband's relatives in matrimonial disputes, reports Live Law.
A bench of Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Nongmeikapam Kotiswar Singh set aside the Madhya Pradesh High Court order refusing to quash proceedings against the complainant's in-laws.
