Another lie exposed as tantri denies sanctioning idol transfer
October 09, 2025
|The Free Press Journal - Mumbai
Another lie perpetrated by Devaswom Board and the government fell flat when Kandararu Rajeevaru, the Tantri of Sabarimala, denied authorising the removal of the Dwarapalaka idols to Chennai for gold plating, asserting that his permission extended only to minor repairs within the temple precincts.
“What Murari Babu said is not right,” he told the media, noting that any restoration he approved would happen on the spot at Sabarimala, not by transporting the idols out.
His comments came amid mounting scrutiny of gold-cladding practices at the sacred shrine, in which former Administrative Officer B. Murari Babu was suspended by the Travancore Devaswom Board for allegedly misreporting the materials used. Murari Babu had claimed he submitted a preliminary report in 2019 describing the cladding as copper after consulting Rajeevaru; the Tantri now rejects that version of events.
