Sabarimala gold probe widens to Bellary cartel

The special investigation team tasked with the probe into the missing gold from Sabarimala Temple has now turned its focus to Bengaluru and Bellary in what investigators describe as an expanding web of transactions linked to the 2019 gold -- plating work at the shrine.
The lead accused, Unnikrishnan Potty - sponsor of the electroplating of the copper plates adorning the dwarapalaka idols - has admitted that the extracted gold was sold, the buyer being identified as a gold- -trader in Bellary.
The SIT has recorded the statement of Govardhan, the businessman from Bellary, and intends to shift Potty to Bellary to facilitate recovery of the metal.
