Old Perambalur cinema landmark to be a nostalgia soon

A 65-year-old single-screen cinema in Perambalur is preparing to shut its doors ahead of planned demolition and redevelopment, marking the end of an era for local filmgoers.

Thetheatre known as krishna Theatre, opened in 1960 and located on Attur Road in Pera-mbalur district, will give way to a modern multiplex and shopping complex.

The theatre was established by P. Rajalingam, P. Gunasekaran and B. Jaya-chandran and went on to become the first cinema hall in the town, seating 462 patrons and operating with a digital sound system in its later years. Ownership passed long-term to M. Raj-aram in 1976, who has managed the hall for nearly five decades and described the building as “not just a bui-Iding... it’s an emotion”.
