GAFFE | BJP criticises Congress after Ajoy Kumar mistakenly calls Sikkim a neighbouring country

- Gaurav Vivek Bhatnagar

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday called the Congress a "Jinnahwadi Party" after its leader Ajoy Kumar referred to Sikkim as a country along with Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka during a press conference.

Though Kumar apologised for his remarks on Wednesday, terming them "a slip of the tongue", the BJP used the opportunity to slam the Congress for its stance on the North East in general and Assam in particular.

Kumar, a former Congress MP, had referred to Sikkim during the press conference on Tuesday while speaking about India's relations "deteriorating relations" with its neighbouring countries. In that light he had taken the names of Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka along with Sikkim in one breath.
