UNREST| Tension flared in Mandya, Maddur districts of Karnataka after stone-pelting during Visarjan in Ram Rahim Nagar
Tension prevailed in the Maddur town of Mandya district since Sunday evening, after communal riots broke out during Ganesha Idol immersion procession.
The tension continued on Monday also after the police resorted to lathi charge on the protesters, who defied the prohibitory orders.
Consequently, both JD(S) and BJP leaders entered the fray, alleging police atrocities against the Hindus.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested 21 miscreants, who pelted stones from the place of worship on Sunday night.
The clash began on Sunday evening, when the Ganesha Idol immersion started in the town. The police had instructed the organisers to switch off the DJ and not to stop in front of the place of worship.
