Chennai airport restores flights after Ditwah blow

Flight operations at the Chennai International Airport have resumed for most routes after Cyclone Ditwah weakened, though two flights bound for Jaffna International Airport remain cancelled for the day.

Airlines restarted services to destinations such as Thoot-hukudi, Madurai and Tiruchirappalli, which bore the brunt of yesterday’s disruptions. Smaller regional turboprop aircraft of the IndiGo fleet — grounded as a safety precaution — have also returned to operation.

Chennai Airport authorities had cancelled a total of 54 flights across multiple sectors when Ditwah approached the Tamil Nadu coast, citing strong winds and heavy rainfall forecasts by the India Meteorological Department. The cancellations affected travel across states and also disrupted connections with Sri Lanka, including flights via Jaffna and Colombo.
