Breast cancer affects over 2.3 lakh women in India annually, making up nearly 30% of all cancers in women. About one in 20-25 Indian women are at risk.

- Amit Srivastava

These alarming figures were highlighted on the opening day of the 28rd Annual Conference on Breast Cancer Management, held from October 10-12. The event is organised by the Women’s Cancer Initiative-Tata Memorial Hospital (WCI-TMH), a nonprofit founded in 2003.

As part of breast cancer awareness month, TMH is hosting the conference that brings together leading oncologists, surgeons, researchers and international experts to discuss early detection, aesthetic reconstruction, genetic testing, and personalized therapy for breast cancer. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the disease claims nearly 90,000 lives each year, with late diagnosis remaining a major challenge.
