RSS calls for self-reliance as Oppn blames Centre over Trump tariffs

As the United States' decision to impose 50 per cent tariffs on Indian imports came into effect on Wednesday, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) called for strengthening self-reliance and ensuring trade happens on India's own terms.

Speaking at a centenary event of the organisation in Delhi, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said India must embrace swadeshi from within and never succumb to external pressure in trade.

"Foreign goods can be accepted voluntarily but never under compulsion. Self-reliance must begin at home. This does not mean breaking ties with other nations, but trade must always be free of pressure," Bhagwat said.

He emphasised that an aatmanirbhar Bharat should serve as an example to the world, with India setting benchmarks that even other nations would follow.

Linking his remarks to the ongoing tariff war with the US, Bhagwat said society must embrace domestic products and values, and India's neighbours too should benefit from peace and development, irrespective of religion or community.
