Punjab and Haryana High Court's visa fraud orders gain relevance amid US deportations

A series of judicial orders issued by the Punjab and Haryana High Court since April 2003—aimed at curbing visa fraud and regulating overseas recruitment—has gained renewed significance in light of the ongoing deportation of illegal immigrants from the United States to India.
The directives, starting with Justice Amar Dutt's 2003 ruling and reinforced by a recent order from Justice Anoop Chitkara, emphasized stringent state intervention to prevent desperate migration attempts. If these measures had been strictly enforced, they might have mitigated the risks of illegal migration.
On February 5, a US military aircraft carrying 104 deported Indian nationals landed in Amritsar, following intensified immigration crackdowns under former President Donald Trump's policies. This development has reignited discussions on whether the High Court's recommendations could have helped prevent vulnerable individuals from resorting to illegal migration channels.
