Parliament clears bills to levy 28 per cent GST on e-gaming

Parliament approved amendments to the Central and Integrated GST laws on Friday to levy a 28 per cent tax on the full face value of bets in online gaming, casinos, and horse racing clubs.

The Central GST (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and the Integrated GST (Amendment) Bill, 2023, piloted by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, also make registration mandatory for offshore egaming companies operating in India. It also provides for blocking access in case offshore platforms fail to comply with GST registration and tax payment norms.
