JPC weighs economic impact of One Nation One Election proposal

The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on One Nation One Election (ONOE) on Wednesday held a key meeting to examine the economic implications of the proposed electoral reform, with senior economists outlining potential macroeconomic and governance benefits of holding simultaneous polls.

The meeting was addressed by Sanjeev Sanyal, a member of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council (EAC-PM), and Gita Gopinath, First Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund and Professor at Harvard University. JPC chairperson PP Chaudhary said the session was aimed at assessing both tangible and intangible economic impacts of ONOE, calling it a critical aspect of the committee's deliberations.
