Jodhpur Arts Week: Majestic celebration of Marwar's art and culture

Over seven days, Jodhpur transformed into a vibrant canvas of creativity, heritage, and community spirit, hosting an immersive celebration of art, culture, history, and the living traditions of Marwar. From its ancient forts to its narrow blue lanes, the city stood as a living testament to how tradition and innovation can walk hand in hand, creating a cultural narrative that belongs to both the past and the future.

Presented by the Public Arts Trust of India the festival brought together artists, artisans, musicians, curators, and audiences from across India and beyond, uniting them in a dialogue that blended traditional Rajasthani aesthetics with global artistic languages. The festival unfolded across several of the city’s most iconic heritage sites — from Toorji ka Jhalra and Mandore Gardens to Shree Sumer School and Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park — each transformed into creative and collaborative public spaces.

The closing evening was nothing short of magical. Over 2,500 earthen lamps lit up the historic stepwell, creating an ethereal ambiance as renowned folk artist Durga and her troupe took the stage with a mesmerizing Terah Taali performance. The traditional devotional dance, performed with brass manjiras (cymbals) tied to different parts of the body, pays tribute to Baba Ramdev and is symbolic of the region’s spiritual and artistic devotion.

The hypnotic rhythm of Terah Taali, accompanied by traditional singing and synchronized movement, captured the soul of Marwar's rich folk heritage and left audiences spellbound. The finale was not only a performance— it was a moment of reverence, artistry, and cultural pride.
