Unlike dense forests, these elusive big cats reside in the rocky outcrops and natural caves of the region's granite hills, earning Jawai the title "Leopard Hills." Remarkably, they coexist peacefully with the local Rabari community.

Jawai Dam – A Treasure of Nature and Wildlife

Jawai Dam is located in the Pali district of Rajasthan, near the towns of Sumerpur and Bera. It is more than just a water reservoir—it is a beautiful blend of raw nature, rich wildlife, and tribal life. Surrounded by rocky hills and open landscapes, the area becomes especially scenic during the monsoon season, making it a peaceful and adventurous getaway for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.

INTRODUCTION AND LOCATION
Constructed across the Jawai River, a tributary of the Luni River, Jawai Dam is the largest dam in western Rajasthan. It is situated about 90 km from Udaipur and 140 km from Jodhpur, making it an accessible weekend escape from major cities in the state.

The dam is surrounded by granite hills, scrub forests, and rural settlements. The landscape transforms beautifully during the monsoon months (July to September), when the reservoir fills with rainwater, and the surroundings turn lush and green.

HISTORY AND CONSTRUCTION
The Jawai Dam was constructed in 1957 by the Government of Rajasthan with the aim of controlling floods, supporting irrigation, and supplying drinking water to nearby regions including Pali, Jalore, and parts of Jodhpur.
