Dr. Girija Vyas stands as one of India's most distinguished figures whose contributions straddle the domains of academia, literature, public service and politics. Born into a family deeply rooted in values and national service, her father was a freedom fighter while her mother was a dedicated school teacher. This upbringing, steeped in idealism and discipline, shaped Dr. Vyas into a personality marked by intellectual brilliance, moral clarity, and an unwavering commitment to social upliftment.
A brilliant student throughout her academic life, Dr. Vyas consistently earned distinctions and accolades. She pursued her higher studies in Philosophy, completing her Ph.D. in 1973 with a unique and insightful dissertation titled "A Comparative Study of Ethical Teachings in the Gita and the Bible." Her academic focus was on comparative ethics, which formed the bedrock of her scholarly and philosophical outlook. She served as a faculty member in the Department of Philosophy at Mohanlal Sukhadia University in Udaipur, where her teaching inspired generations of students. Her students now serve across the globe in diverse fields, carrying forward her teachings.
She expanded her academic horizons as a visiting faculty member at the University of Delaware, USA, where she also received a post-doctoral fellowship. Her work in comparative ethics garnered appreciation internationally and cemented her status as a scholar of global repute.
