India's journey into the modern world was shaped by a handful of great minds, and among them, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan stands tall—a philosopher, an educationist, a humanist, and a statesman whose intellectual brilliance and moral vision gave India a distinctive identity on the global stage.

Born on 5th September 1888, in the holy town of Tiruttani (near Chennai), Radhakrishnan's early education was steeped in Sanskrit and Indian philosophy, which later became the foundation of his academic and spiritual outlook. As a student, he moved to Vellore and then to Madras. In 1908, while pursuing his M.A. at Madras Christian College, he penned a thesis titled "Ethics of the Vedanta," asserting that religion must be a rational, action-driven, and socially relevant pursuit.

In 1909, Radhakrishnan began his career as a lecturer in philosophy at the Madras Presidency College. His deep understanding of Indian thought, especially Vedanta, combined with a modern analytical approach, soon earned him recognition among India's leading thinkers. Though not directly involved in politics, he wrote compelling essays supporting India's freedom movement and became an intellectual voice of a rising nation.
