Punjab police clears Shambhu border for public
In a late-evening crackdown on the protesting farmers at Shambhu and Khanauri border points of Punjab and Haryana, the Punjab police have detained key farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal and Sarvan Singh Pandher along with several others amid rising tensions over protest demands. They were detained in Mohali while returning from a meeting with government officials in Chandigarh.
Dallewal had been on hunger strike over 100 days now.
The police also removed temporary sheds of the farmers to open the highways for the general public.
Hundreds of cops with heavy machines and earthmovers reached both the borders and started removing the makeshift structures and used buses to transport the detained protesters away from the site. It is learnt that after removing temporary shelters from the Punjab side, Haryana police will also remove the barricades so that the traffic could be restored on both the key highways which were blocked since February 13 last year.
