BRO clears Zoji La snow; Vaishno Devi Yatra resumes today

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) on Tuesday began snow clearance operations at the strategic Zoji La Pass following a fresh spell of snowfall that blanketed the region late Monday night, while the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board announced the resumption of the pilgrimage from Wednesday after a three-day suspension due to bad weather.

Officials said teams from Project Beacon of the BRO began clearing the Srinagar-Leh highway early Tuesday morning after heavy overnight snowfall caused temporary disruption in vehicular movement. The operation, being conducted under subzero temperatures and low visibility, aims to restore traffic connectivity between Kashmir and Ladakh at the earliest.

"The snow clearance work was initiated immediately after weather conditions showed slight improvement. Our teams are working with heavy machinery to restore connectivity as quickly as possible," said a BRO official.
