Van Der Merwe: He Vowed Not To Be A One-Cap Bok
Humbled and honoured to be selected to face Italy at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday, Edwill van der Merwe admitted he feared he would become a one-cap Springbok after being out of the squad for more than a year.
The 29-year-old winger made his debut against Wales at Twickenham in June 2024. He defended well, but is best remembered for sidestepping a defender and breaking a tackle to score a dazzling 75th-minute try.
Shortly after that game, injury struck, and with other wings impressing, he was left out of the squad for over a year.
