As the days and nights get cooler, pelargoniums (also known as garden geraniums) are shaking off their summer lethargy to produce their show of autumn flowers. They are great fillers for patio pots, window boxes and hanging baskets and if kept in a warm, sunny position will keep on blooming into winter.

Thrillers
For medium to large containers for patios, entrances and as garden features, there are three interspecific pelargoniums that flower prolifically and are vigorous yet compact plants.

“Top” is a regal pelargonium that has large striking flowers in rich, vibrant colours - purple, dark red, violet and deep pinks as well as gorgeous bicolours.

The plant is dense and upright growing with bright green leaves and an abundance of flowers. It is less likely to become leggy, a characteristic of the older regal pelargoniums.
