Safety MEC slams barbaric act; tells liquor outlets to prioritise safety.

A suspect has been arrested following a mass shooting in Mpumalanga that tragically claimed the lives of eight people over the weekend. The shooting occurred early Saturday morning, when gunmen stormed a liquor outlet and opened fire in Pienaar, outside Mbombela, formerly known as Nelspruit, in Mpumalanga.

Six victims were declared dead at the scene, while two succumbed to injuries in hospital. Three more were wounded in the attack: one has since been discharged from hospital, while two remain under medical care.

A 39-year-old man was taken into custody on Sunday night in connection with the shooting. The suspect was arrested in Pienaar and allegedly found in possession of a firearm and 13 rounds of ammunition, according to the police. He is expected to appear in court soon.
