Colonial legacy still cripples Middle East

Liberating Palestine needs more than ending Israeli occupation, writes Mohamed Saeed.

One of the greatest injustices in contemporary Islamic history was the dismantling of the Arabian Peninsula and the colonial partitioning of its lands.

As part of broader colonial ambitions, European powers, through pacts like the Sykes-Picot Agreement and the Balfour Declaration, arbitrarily redrew artificial borders in the Middle East, much like in Africa, to advance their own strategic and economic interests.
