The branding of the Metro system was originally a far cry from the current sleek black, white, grey and yellow colour scheme.
2026 is scheduled to be the last year of the old fleet of trains, marking a major milestone in North East transport.
They have become a major part of everyday life, but by the spring they will all have been decommissioned, paving the way for the new Stadler trains to take over completely.
