ENZO Le Fee admitted he spent the week leading up to the Wear-Tyne Derby watching highlights and clips on his phone to understand just how much the game meant to Sunderland.

This is not a club, it's a city declares Sunderland's Le Fee

The French playmaker played the full 90 minutes as Regis Le Bris’ side ran out 1-0 winners against Newcastle United, thanks to a Nick Woltemade own goal.

Le Fee has enjoyed his fair share of big games throughout the early part of his career, but wanted to give the Red and White Army an early Christmas present with a win over the Magpies.

“This week, I've got a lot on my phone, a lot of videos,” he said in the mixed zone after the game. “But yes, I saw it a bit [of previous games]. The last game was in the FA Cup, so I watched this game. But this was just crazy.”

Le Fee had to watch on from the sidelines as AS Roma took on Lazio in one of Italy's biggest derbies, but was delighted to play his part at the weekend.

He said: “Like I said, I didn’t play this game, but I was on the bench, and it was crazy as well. For me, it’s just a question of there being between two clubs, and here it’s there being between two cities.

“This is the difference, and like I said, we wanted to give this Christmas present to everyone, and we did it. For me, I think it’s one of the biggest games.

“[I’m] Tired, but unbelievable. We knew already it was an important game, not just for us, but for the city, for the story of this city.

“Our target was to win this game in front of our fans, to give this present before Christmas. Just unbelievable.”
