Rail station contractors report 'great progress'

CONTRACTORS working on one of the two remaining Northumberland Line stations yet to open report that “great progress” has been made.

Bedlington Station in October, 2023 - civil construction for both platforms is now complete

It is hoped that Bedlington station will open in early 2026.

The line has opened in stages since the first trains began running more than a year ago. Despite this, more than 900,000 journeys have been made, surpassing expectations.

Jamie Wilson, site lead for contractor Morgan Sindall, said: "We have made considerable strides towards the completion of the station.

"We have completed the civil construction for both platforms and are currently on with mechanical and electrical elements.
