Project aims to tackle "bystander CPR' gap

A research team from the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) has delivered life-saving skills sessions. Organised in conjunction with Byker-based group African Community Advice North East (ACANE), the sessions are part of the service’s ongoing work to target health inequality in underserved groups across the North East and improve survival from cardiac arrest.

A cardiac arrest happens when the heart suddenly stops pumping – preventing blood from flowing to the brain and other vital organs, depriving them of oxygen. This is different from a heart attack, although a heart attack can lead to a cardiac arrest.
