Newcastle set to tweak backroom staff and bring in set-plays

June 04, 2025

NEWCASTLE United are set to make a major tweak to their backroom team ahead of the 2025/26 season - with a specialised coaching role to be added to the staff this summer.

Previously, Newcastle opted against such an appointment, with assistant manager Jason Tindall and first-team coach Stephen Purches handling the majority of dead-ball drills in training and routines on match days. But Newcastle have gone public with their search to fill a gap that is becoming increasingly important in the modern game.

Indeed, Arsenal's Nicolas Jover and Aston Villa's Austin MacPhee have made the role prominent in the Premier League. But the Magpies are now set to head into their Champions League campaign with a fresh new look to the backroom team.
