New breast research centre opens in region

A NEW breast research centre has launched in the North East with a focus on improving diagnosis, treatments, and access to clinical trials in the region.

The Northern Centre for Breast Research marks a significant step in Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust's ambition to become the Northern Centre of Excellence for Women’s Health.

Based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead, the centre brings together clinicians, researchers and academic partners to deliver world-class breast care research.

Dr Simon Lowes, Consultant Breast Radiologist, said: “By bringing our expertise together under the Northern Centre for Breast Research, we are creating a strong foundation for innovation and collaboration.

“The research carried out here will directly shape improvements in diagnosis, treatment and patient outcomes.”
