YOUNG cancer patients on the wards at the Great North Children’s Hospital in Newcastle have worked on an astonishing art exhibition at a Tyneside Metro station that highlights the “invisible challenges” they face.

A new installation called Invisible Journeys has launched in Tynemouth Metro Station Bridge Gallery.

The exhibition space which literally bridges the gap between the two platforms is filled with 120 golden stars that represent the 120 young cancer patients each year who live in the North East and Cumbria.

The stars have been produced by youngsters on the paediatric cancer wards 4 and 14 at the hospital at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.

The idea is a collaboration between charities Children’s Cancer North and the North Tyneside Art Studio.
