A BLYTH couple who head a family spanning five generations and say the secret to a long marriage is to "never argue with each other" are celebrating seven decades of marriage.

- By EMILY GRAY

Mr and Mrs Telford were married on September 17, 1955.

Colin, aged 90, originally from the west end of Newcastle, first met wife Lily, 87, through mutual acquaintances on his search for somewhere to live after getting a job at Whitley Bay and District meat supplies company.

Lily recalls Colin was "rather charming", and from there "love blossomed" between the pair, with Colin walking Lily home to Shiremoor from her job at Thompsons grocery stores.

Once married at St Mark's Church, Lily raised their five children and Colin decided to follow his passion of fishing, joining the fish auction market.
