Driving instructor Vikki Holt has reignited the campiagn to reopen South Shields Driving Test Centre, which closed in 2022
SOUTH Tyneside councillors have thrown their support behind a campaign to reopen the borough's former driving test centre.
The South Shields centre, in Jarrow's Bede Industrial Estate, was shut down in 2022 as part of a scheme to amalgamate it with Sunderland's Driving Test Centre.
However, subsequent reports have highlighted issues with test availability and prolonged waiting times, leading the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) to announce plans to hire more examiners to address the backlog.
The campaign to resurrect the former driving test centre has been recently reignited by Vikki Holt, a driving instructor from Heb-burn.
