Axe-wielding burglars stole till and alcohol

AXE-WIELDING burglars who stole a shop till and hundreds of pounds worth of alcohol have been jailed.

It was on the on the evening of May 28 when Daniel Clerkson began the spree, stealing more than £100 worth of laundry products from a store on Moorhouse Lane in Ashington.

He returned to the same premises twice more in the following week, forcing entry on both occasions and stealing alcohol valued in excess of £1,600.

The 32-year-old then targeted premises on Remscheid Way in Ashington on the morning of June 2, adopting the same approach to steal alcohol worth almost £300.

Just five days later, David Chivers joined Clerkson on his spree, returning back to the premises on Moorhouse Lane.

They smashed through the window to steal more alcohol, and used an axe to open and take the cash till.
