£18m a year is saved by record system for NHS
October 11, 2025
|The Chronicle
A “GREAT North” system for sharing medical records has saved the NHS up to £1.5m a month since launching in 2020.
Analysis from Newcastle University’s business school has found that the Great North Care Record system has saved around 77 minutes of NHS staff time each day.
The system is a digital platform that allows patient information to be shared across organisations and to be retrieved from different storage systems “instantly” at the point of care.
The idea has been to better integrate the sharing of vital information across health and care providers in the North East and North Cumbria.
