Uttar Pradesh to champion eco-friendly plastics with Rs 2,000 cr bioplastic park

In a significant move to tackle environmental pollution, the Uttar Pradesh government is set to establish a Bioplastic Park in Kumbhi village, Gola Gokarnnath tehsil, Lakhimpur Kheri district, with an investment of Rs 2,000 crore.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has emphasized the urgency of the project, instructing its swift completion. The park will be developed over 1,000 hectares and constructed by Balrampur Sugar Mill Firm, promising extensive job creation and encouraging the growth of supporting industries in the region.
The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) will act as the nodal agency overseeing the park's development. Bioplastic, a type of plastic derived from natural materials such as corn, sunflower, or sugar beet, decomposes quickly, thus mitigating environmental pollution.
