Addressing members of Parliament in the House of Commons, Sunak delivered a statement to reiterate the UK's condemnation of Hamas' actions in both Israel and Gaza
-
On Monday, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak pledged GBP 10 million in humanitarian aid for civilians residing in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPTs) in light of the intensifying conflict between Israel and Gaza. He also confirmed that six British nationals lost their lives, while 10 others are still unaccounted for in the region.
Addressing members of Parliament in the House of Commons, Sunak reiterated the UK's strong condemnation of Hamas' actions in both Israel and Gaza. He called for immediate access for humanitarian organizations to provide critical aid and emphasized the urgency of life-saving assistance.
Sunak labeled the Hamas strikes on Israel on 7th October as a "pogrom," denoting organized acts of torture or killing directed at a large group of individuals based on their race or religion. He emphasized the need to address the issue forthrightly, condemning the violence.
The UK government is actively exploring strategies to relocate humanitarian supplies closer to the region and is collaborating with aid agencies in the area to facilitate the swift and efficient distribution of relief supplies.
Expressing pride in the UK's history of being a significant provider of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people, Sunak announced a one-third increase in aid, amounting to an additional GBP 10 million of support. He highlighted the unfolding acute humanitarian crisis, emphasizing the necessity of standing in support of the Palestinian people who have also been affected by the actions of Hamas.
