Sebi Streamlines Broker Inspections Process

Markets regulator Sebi on Thursday mandated a unified annual inspection process for stock brokers and depository participants, replacing the existing practice of multiple separate assessments by different market infrastructure institutions (MIIs).
The move aims to minimise repeated visits and reduce time and resource strain on intermediaries.
Currently, annual inspections of stock brokers and depository participants (DPs) are carried out independently by each MII — including stock exchanges, depositories, and clearing corporations. This leads to overlapping inspections, operational disruptions, and inefficient use of intermediary resources, Sebi said in its circular.
