The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the proceedings in a disproportionate assets case against former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam (OPS) and his family members.
The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the proceedings in a disproportionate assets case against former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam (OPS) and his family members. The court issued notices to the Tamil Nadu Police and the original complainants while seeking their responses to an appeal filed by OPS. A bench comprising Justices Hrishikesh Roy and SVN Bhatti acted on OPS’s challenge to a recent Madras High Court order that revived the case. This decision puts the case on hold temporarily as the apex court reviews the matter. The case pertains to allegations that OPS amassed wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income during his tenure as Tamil Nadu’s revenue minister between 2001 and 2006. In 2006, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), under the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)led government, registered a case against OPS for allegedly accumulating wealth worth ₹1.7 crore, which reportedly exceeded
