In early December, Haryana transferred around Rs 148 crore directly into the bank accounts of 7,01,965 women under the Deen Dayal Lado Laxmi Yojana - the second installment since the scheme launched in late September.

Money in her name: Haryana's lado Laxmi transfers and the new cash confidence

Representative image.

By November-end, more than 9 lakh women had applied via a dedicated mobile app, with over 7 lakh found eligible.

The basic design is simple. Any woman aged 23 or above with a family income below Rs 1 lakh a year can apply through the Lado Laxmi app. Every eligible woman in a family can receive the benefit - not just one “head of household”.

The money is released every three months, with the quarter's entitlement bundled into a single Direct Benefit Transfer.

On the ground, this digital pipeline arrives with a series of hoops: downloading the app, uploading a live photograph, Aadhaar-based e-KYC, income verification and bank account seeding.
