Madras High Court Stays ED Attachment of Director Shankar's Property Over Copyright Dispute: 'Why Did Not ED Wait For Outcome of Complaint?'

The counsel, Vishnu appearing for ED also submitted before the court that no harm had been caused to Shankar due to the ED's action and thus the attachment need not be interfered with.

The Madras High Court in the case S Shankar v. The Deputy Director observed and has stayed an order of the Enforcement Directorate, ED provisionally attaching property worth an amount of Rs. 10 crore of Tamil film-maker S Shankar in a copyright infringement case in connection with the 2010 movie 'Enthiran'.

The bench comprising of Justice MS Ramesh and Justice N Senthilkumar was hearing the present matter.

The bench in the case observed and has stayed the provisional attachment order wherein the petition is filed by the Director.

The Enforcement Directorate, ED had attached the property on February 17 following a complaint by Arur Tamilnadan, wherein it is claimed that Shankar had violated his copyright as the story of the movie was inspired by his story Jugiba.
