BJP's Leadership Strategy: Time to Empower the Youth for a Stronger Future
July 22, 2025
|The Business Guardian
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is sometimes called the world's largest political party, has millions of workers, office holders, and sympathizers all over India.
The party has become a major player in Indian politics thanks to its strong grassroots presence and well-organized structure. But the recent appointments of state presidents and the assignment of multiple tasks to a small group of leaders, many of whom are already Members of Parliament (MPs), Members of Legislative Assemblies (MLAs), or work for the government, corporations, cooperatives, banks, and Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), have led to debates about the party's leadership strategy.
The BJP's centralized leadership style has helped it win elections but giving the same people many jobs make people wonder if the party can develop new leaders and make the most of its large membership. Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently talked about how important it is to train young leaders. This is a good time for the BJP to rethink its strategy, give its young people more influence, and make sure the party is strong for a long time, so it doesn't wind up like its adversary, the Indian National Congress, which has been stuck in a rut.
The BJP named many new state presidents last week. Many of them are either elected officials or have important roles in the party or administration. In many states, MPs and MLAs are also state presidents, ministers & they have to deal with a lot of different issues, and senior leaders have important jobs in government-affiliated groups like Nigam, cooperatives, and PSUs. This method may show that the party trusts veteran leaders, but it also shows that there may not be enough new people who can take on leadership roles.
It's strange to witness such an occasion to a party which once had a slogan "Har Karykarta ke liye Kaam aur har Karya ke liye Karykarta".
