DAVE Wrightson took three wickets for Newdigate's second XI against Reigate Priory IV but ultimately it was the rain that won the Surrey Championship Division Nine East fixture.
-
Struggling Newdigate travelled to Priory's St Alban's Road Ground to face the third place team in the league. The forecast looked dire all week, with rain expected to start at 2pm and continue for the remainder of the day. Despite the forecast, play began at 1pm, Newdigate's captain David Callcut won the toss and chose to field first.
Priory's openers Chris Mallows Michael Ramsden and got the home team to a flying start, reaching 112 before Newdigate were able to break the partnership, skipper Ramsden being the first to go for 71. Another 49 runs were scored before Newdigate could get another wicket, with the other opener Mallows falling for 55. Brijesh Patel (14), Brijesh Bharatiya (16) and Tim Glynne-Jones (15no) were able to help the home team reach 207-6 from their allotted 45 overs.
