Warning of major line closure on busy route

Engineering works between London Waterloo and Clapham Junction are due to take place from December 27 and into 2026, closing lines between the capital and Surrey

(SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY)

SOUTH Western Rail (SWR) are warning passengers to 'plan ahead' if travelling by train between London and Surrey this Christmas period, as there will be a major line closure in addition to the normal services closures.

As in previous years, there will be no SWR services on Christmas Day and Boxing day.

In addition to this, on December 24, services will finish sooner at around 10pm, so the rail operator has told passengers to double check what time their last train home if on Christmas Eve this year.

Works are set to be taking place across the SWR network from December 24 until Sunday, January 4, 2026.
