CAMPAIGNERS CELEBRATE DRILLING LICENCE SURRENDER
CAMPAIGNERS have hailed the end of the "ridiculous" idea of drilling for oil and gas at a site near a Surrey village as the licence to extract the fossil fuels from the site has been surrendered by UK Oil & Gas PLC (UKOG).
The firm had permission to begin exploratory work at a site in Dunsfold, which has proved controversial within the local community.
The announcement has been called a “momentous day” for the area. This is in part because the site is located adjacent to the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which is home to protected species.
