Ridding leads the way for Harriers in Quayside 5km

Hundreds of runners headed to Newcastle to take part in the hugely popular Quayside 5km race, writes Kevin Carr.

Hosted by RunThrough in partnership with Gateshead Harriers, the course takes in the famous landmarks of the Newcastle Quayside passing the Swing Bridge and under the High Level Bridge, Queen Elizabeth II Bridge, King Edward VII Bridge and Redheugh Bridge, before returning the same way.
Sunderland Harriers' Jake Ridding was the first home for the club in a time of 15:29.
Teammates Michael Rodenby (16:18); Jordan Taylor (16:21); Chris Thornley (16:29) and Rob King (16:53) all dipped under 17 minutes, with Taylor posting a 60 seconds personal best performance.
Houghton Harrier Ryan King (Under-17) had a superb run to finish seventh in his age category, with a time of 17:56.
