|Sunderland Echo
The fourth North East Harrier League fixture of the season took place at Wrekenton, with many of the region's top athletes using the race as a tuneup for the upcoming North East Cross-Country Championships in December, writes Kevin Carr.
Sunderland Harriers' women had to settle for fourth place, despite Jessica Fox running the fastest time of the day to finish in seventh place. Fox raced from the fast pack, giving away a five minute and 15 seconds handicap.
Eve Tait (41st), Ashleigh Bennett (50th) and Linda Hutchinson (70th) were the final three team counters.
The result leaves the women sitting fourth in the league table, six points behind table-toppers Tyne Bridge Harriers.
As for Sunderland Harriers' men's team, Stephen Jackson ran a superb race to finish third overall racing from the medium pack, giving away a two and a half minutes handicap.
